Henna Tattoo Removal

Your first henna tattoo should be in a place where you can cover it if it lasts longer than you expect, and it is not advisable to try to remove your henna tattoos. You should try to let them wear off naturally. Use extreme caution as to not damage your skin.

Start by soaking your skin in salt water. See how much henna will come out after 15 minutes. Then dry your design thoroughly. Someone has suggested that sweating will help remove henna tattoos. So make the water as warm as you can stand it...do not scald yourself.

And again, you will not be able to totally remove your henna tattoo design.

Now, it's time for the secret weapon.

Caution: As with any other product, you need to do a test for allergies.

There is a product called "Pretty Feet and Hands." It is a rough skin remover (in other words, it exfoliates.) Apply it over the design as per the instructions on the bottle and start rubbing over the henna tattoos you wish to remove. This product was designed to remove dead skin. It will not totally take out the henna, but it will give you a good start.

Do not use repeatedly in a short period of time on the same patch of skin. You will only irritate and bruise your skin or scar yourself.

Other suggestions:

  • Chlorinated Water - take an extended swim in the pool
  • Hydrogen Peroxide - gently and repeatedly rub over henna design with a cotton ball

Warning: Never use or let anyone else use "Black Henna" on your skin. Always test a small patch of skin for henna allergies. Read our "Black Henna Warning" article here.

That being said, the following steps will not totally remove your henna tattoo design, but will help speed its departure. Different skins absorb henna at different rate, some henna tattooing that's meant to last a few days, can last more than two weeks. Everyone is different. Anyone interested in getting henna tattoos should read our black henna tattoo warning.
