YA 'Stuvo Tattoo Removal
Tattoo removal is a critical positive step in a long and challenging journey out of gang life and into positive social integration with the community at large.

Since its founding in 1997, the purpose of the Ya ‘Stuvo Tattoo Removal Program has been the provision of accessible, no-cost tattoo removal services to former gang members who voluntarily enroll, in an effort to redirect lives, to eliminate stigmatizing obstacles to employment and to overall healthy lives, and to foster positive community interactions. Ya ‘Stuvo means “that’s enough, I’m done with that”. Tattoo removal is often the first and most urgent treatment accessed in a continuum of case-managed economic development, health and social services offered through Homeboy Industries.

Homeboy Industries‚ tattoo removal program draws patients from throughout Los Angeles County to its headquarters in East Los Angeles. Approximately one-third of the patients are female. The vast majority are of Mexican descent, but there are growing numbers from of other Latino groups (Central and South American), African Americans and Anglos. To date, over 1,500 individuals have been served in the Tattoo Removal program.

Agape Light

They offer free laser tattoo removal for those who are in recovery, who want to remove their past "Gang, Hate related tattoos. They focus on helping those who have "Visibly showing tattoos on the hands, neck and face".

Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic (HSFC)
Community Laser Tattoo Removal Program at HSFC. The primary reasons participants seek tattoo removal is because they are maturing, wish to leave gangs, and seek employment. The participants are typically under 25 years old and some of them have been gang members involved in drug-use and other illicit activities.

All participants commit to performing a minimum of 30 hours of community service before receiving the laser treatment. The target population is predominantly Latino approximately 75 percent), with a substantial number of Asians.

Since the inception of the program in October 1998, HSFC has performed 11,326 laser treatments and removed 1,188 tattoos. In other words, enough tattoo ink to cover the skin surface of two grown adults has been removed! An average tattoo is 2 inches by 2 inches.
